Curing the Hiccups with the “30 Second Cure”

Another popular method for curing the hiccups is the “30 Second Cure For Hiccups” which can be found in it’s entirety at Cognitial .com.

This is the method that was recommended to me by a doctor while trying to cure my bout with “persistent hiccups”. This method didn’t offer a long term solution for persistent hiccups but did offer short periods of relief prior to the Thorazine kicking in.

Use the following breathing method to perform the 30 Second Cure for Hiccups:

First take a deep breath slowly drawing air into the lungs. Continue to breathe in air until you can’t take anymore in.

Now close your mouth and hold your breath. With your mouth closed try to perform a swallowing motion. Picture in your mind that you have a small amount of water in your mouth, and do your best to try and swallow it.

Once you have swallowed you should be able to breath in more air. Slightly open your mouth and suck in more air all the while still holding your breath.

Perform the swallowing motion again. Repeat the steps above until you can not hold anymore air in your lungs. Once you have reached this part slowly exhale the air in your lungs.

Breathe the air out as slowly as possible in an effort to draw out the breath. It is recommended that a good exhale should last up to 30 seconds.

Repeat the steps above until your hiccups are cured.

Information on Persistent Hiccups and the 30 Second Cure

As I mentioned before, this method didn’t work for me when I had persistent hiccups. You can see based on the feedback on the 30 Second Cure for Hiccups webpage that this method is very effective and has helped thousands of people cure their hiccups.

There are two considerations to keep in mind though. In most cases of normal hiccups there are many home remedies that will help a person. In a case of persistent hiccups the severity of the condition may cause normal remedies to be ineffective.

The next consideration to keep in mind is that you are doing the exercise correctly. The biggest factor that a lot of people seem to miss is the importance of breathing in and holding your breath until your lungs are completely full of air.

This method can take practice so if it doesn’t work the first time, do not give up. It just means you need to try again and maybe you will have more luck.

Home Remedies to Cure Hiccups Work in Normal Cases

The doctor also recommended a “home remedy” to try in the meantime (while we went to pickup the prescription.). I was a breathing exercise he wanted me to try in an effort to readjust my diaphragm.

He had obviously searched online while I was in Radiology because the method he wanted me to try was one I had come across on another website that had a lot of positive feedback from people who had tried it. This method can be found here.

30 Second Cure to Hiccups

Once we picked up the prescriptions we went home. As soon as I walked in the door I took the Acid Blocker and Thorazine. I had been doing the breathing exercise on the way home to try and help with my hiccups.

I had actually tried it a day or two before with very little luck. I think based on the feedback the method probably works great in “common” cases of hiccups but due to the extent of my hiccups it did very little to help me.

Within about 30 minutes of taking the Chlorpromazine I started feeling a little “sleepy” and before I knew it I was out cold. The thing about Thorazine is when it knocks you out; it knocks you out but good. I feel asleep at about 11:00pm and slept until about 5:00pm the next day.

Visit to Urgent Care for a Cure to Constant Hiccuping

We got to Urgent Care first thing in the morning at 9am when they opened. This was good because even in doing so there was quite a wait. By this time I was exhausted and worn down, my throat felt as though it has been rubbed with steel wool, and I thought I might start gagging in the lobby at any minute.

They finally got me into a room to see a doctor, where I was helped by a nurse prior to meeting with the doctor. He turned out to be one of the most informed people we had talked to since the whole episode began.

He mentioned that the medication I had been given from the ER was mainly for nausea and was not going to help with hiccups. He also mentioned that my hiccups might have had something to do with the effect that “general anesthesia” has on your body.

I then met with the doctor who checked me out. Everything seemed normal aside from the fact that I still had the hiccups. He mentioned that the surgery may have put a strain on my frenetic nerve which could be causing the hiccups. He said there were plenty of “home remedies” but not many medical cures for hiccups as they had never been studied in depth for medical pusposes.

He gave me a new prescription for Metoclopramide and sent me on my way.
