Getting my wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday… (SCARED & AFRAID)

http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/…/t-210038.html

“I just had my wisdom teeth out a few weeks ago. I had an IV to put me under. I didn’t have any problems with anything or any dry sockets, thankfully. However I apparently am in the 5% of people who get hiccups from the pain medicine I was prescribed. It was fun to watch my coworkers go insane for two days as I kept hiccuping.”

“I just recently had my wisdom teeth taken out and I’ve been on hydrocodon for about a week now. But about 4 days ago I started getting hiccups throughout the day. They come back after a few hours and last for about 30 mins. Does anyone know if its because of the medication i’m on?”

Hiccups after Wisdom teeth removal?

“I just had my wisdom teeth removed Friday afternoon, and ever since that night, I have had constant hiccups. I do mean constant. It happens every 5 seconds whenever I am up and walking around…literally. The only time it isn’t happening is for about 10 minutes after I wake up from a short, vicodin-induced nap. I usually hiccup myself to sleep. This is so annoying. Has it happened to anyone else? I’ve done internet searches and can’t find hiccups as a side effect from the surgery. Help!!”

“Hiccups are usually a brief self-limited occasional annoyance of normal daily life associated with little clinical significance. For some unfortunate patients, however, hiccups can be chronic, persistent and resistant to therapy. In the case of the post-operative patient, such intractable hiccups can interfere with nutrition, sleep, and post-operative care, thus prolonging or complicating the patient\’s hospital course.1″

“After I had my wisdom teeth removed, I hiccupped for 10 days straight. It only stopped about half an hour after I’d lie down, which meant, fortunately, that I could still sleep properly. I had three different prescriptions, one for a very low dosage of the antipsychotic medication Haldol.”

“She said that I had the hiccups really bad and I have always had this little remedy that if you hold your breath for 30 seconds, swallow three times, then say hippopotomus, then your hiccups will go away. So apparantly I blurted out that remedy in the waiting room and did it, but it didn’t work.”
